Course Settings
In Course Settings (bottom left), you can:
- choose which links appear in course navigation on the left
- choose the language of the course
- choose the image shown for the course on the Canvas Dashboard
- enable additional features under Feature Options, such as Smart Search, Enhanced Rubrics, and other newer Canvas features that are not enabled by default
The Announcements link becomes visible to students automatically after the first announcement has been posted. Remember that the course must be published first.
Only show links that will be used
Course navigation on the left gives access to different parts of the course. As a general rule, students should only see the links that will actually be used in the course. Unnecessary links can cause confusion, while missing links can make course content harder to find.
Use Student View to check which links students can see.
Course language
The default course language setting is Not set. This means the Canvas interface in the course is shown in the user’s preferred language. For example, if a student has chosen Danish in their personal Canvas settings, the course navigation and other system text will appear in Danish for that student.
This only affects Canvas interface text. It does not change content created by the teacher.
When the course should always appear in a specific language
If the course should always appear in Icelandic or another specific language for all users, select that language in Course Settings. For example, in an Icelandic language course, the teacher may want the course interface to always appear in Icelandic.
Remember to click Update Course Details to save the change.
