Move a Panopto recording between courses
This guide explains how to move a recording from one course to another. You can also copy a recording and move the copy, which is useful if the recording should be available in two or more courses.
Please note that Panopto must be enabled in the course that will receive the recording. If you see the Panopto Video link in the course navigation menu on the left, Panopto is enabled. If not, you need to enable it first.
Path: Course > Settings > Navigation
- Open the course in Canvas.
- Click Settings at the bottom of the course navigation menu.
- Select the Navigation tab near the top of the page.
- Find Panopto Video in the lower list and drag it to the upper list. You can also use the three-dot menu next to it and select Enable. You can then drag the link to the position where you want it to appear in the course navigation.
- Click Save at the bottom of the page.
The Panopto Video link should now appear in the course navigation menu.
Move or copy a recording from one course to another
Path: Course in Canvas > Open in Panopto
Open the Canvas course where the recording is currently located.
Click Panopto Video in the course navigation menu. The course recordings will appear.
Click the Open in Panopto icon in the upper-right corner. The Panopto web server opens in a new window.
Find the recording or recordings you want to move, then select the small checkbox in the upper-left corner of each recording. To select all recordings on the page, use the checkbox above the recordings. The action buttons will appear above the recordings.
Click either Move or Copy. When you hover over the icons, you can see which actions they represent.
Use Move to move the recording to another course.
Use Copy to copy the recording and move the copy to another course. When you copy a recording, it remains available in both courses.
Find the course that should receive the recording and click it. You can use the search field at the top of the window and enter the course name, or find the course under Default Folder at the bottom of the list.
Click Move or Copy, and then close the window.
When a recording is moved, it appears in the new course immediately. When a recording is copied, it may take 20–30 minutes for Panopto to finish copying and moving the recording.
