ECTS Credits and Student Workload
Calculation of a Student's Working Hours
Each ECTS credit should correspond to 25–30 hours of student work. This total includes all course-related activities, such as homework, class attendance, watching or listening to recorded material, participation in online meetings, communication, assignments, and exams.
By completing the table with estimated hours, you give students an idea of the course’s expected workload. Online workload calculators can also be used to estimate the time required. One example is the calculator from Wake Forest University, Office of Online Education, which is used by many universities.
The table is included in the course syllabus template.
| Hours | Course-related activities |
|---|---|
| Homework/reading | |
| Class attendance | |
