Canvas Tip: New Tools for Feedback from External Reviewers

In this Canvas Tip, we would like to introduce two new tools in Canvas that can help students receive structured feedback from someone outside the course: Feedback Request on Work and Feedback Request on Skills. Both tools are part of the FeedbackFruits tool suite. The reviewer does not need access to Ugla, Canvas, or FeedbackFruits, but the feedback is submitted back into the FeedbackFruits activity in Canvas.

These tools can be useful in internships, workplace-based learning, clinical placements, practicum settings, mentorship programmes, project work, portfolios, and other learning activities where feedback from an external person is relevant.

In Feedback Request on Work, students request feedback on a submitted piece of work, such as a report, draft, project file, portfolio, or other assignment.

In Feedback Request on Skills, students request feedback on selected skills or competencies. This tool is intended for situations where feedback is based on observation of the student’s skills in practice, rather than on a submitted assignment.

In both tools, the teacher defines the criteria, rubrics, rating scales, instructions, deadlines, and other settings. If the teacher allows it, students can select which criteria they want feedback on.

The student chooses who should provide the feedback and sends the request from within the activity. External reviewers may be workplace supervisors, mentors, clinical supervisors, external readers, or industry partners. They receive a link by email and can provide ratings and/or written comments based on the selected criteria.

Instructions for setting up and using both tools are available on canvas.hi.is:
