Feedback Request on Skills

Purpose

This tool allows students to request feedback from an external reviewer on selected skills or competencies. It is useful, for example, in internships, workplace-based learning, clinical placements, practicum settings, mentorship programmes, and other contexts where skills are observed in practice rather than assessed through a submitted assignment.

The feedback follows a framework defined by the teacher, while students are responsible for sending the request and working with the feedback they receive. Unlike Feedback Request on Work, students do not upload a deliverable; reviewers provide feedback based on their observations of the student’s skills.

The reviewer may, for example, be a workplace supervisor, mentor, clinical supervisor, external assessor, or industry partner. They do not need access to Ugla, Canvas, or FeedbackFruits in order to provide feedback. The feedback is submitted directly into the FeedbackFruits activity in Canvas.

Teacher

The teacher sets up the activity, defines the skill criteria, rubrics, rating scales, reviewer instructions, deadlines, and other relevant settings.

The teacher can also decide whether students receive feedback on all criteria or whether they may choose which skills or competencies they want feedback on.

Student

The student creates a feedback request, enters who should provide the feedback, and sends the request to that person from within the activity. If the teacher allows it, the student can select which skills or competencies they want feedback on.

This gives students an active role in identifying the areas where they need feedback.

Reviewer

The reviewer receives an email link and provides ratings and/or written comments based on the selected criteria for the activity.
