Checklist for Completing the Gradebook
Use this checklist to confirm that the gradebook has been completed and that final grades are ready to be imported into Ugla.
In Assignments
- All graded assignments have points. Complete/Incomplete assignments must also have points.
- Assignment groups have been created, and assignments have been placed in the correct groups.
- Assignment group weights have been defined. The weighting is correct and matches the information in the syllabus.
- If more than one assignment is placed in the same assignment group, all assignments in that group must have the same number of points if they are meant to have equal weight.
- Assignments that should not count toward the final grade have been set to Do not count this assignment towards the final grade in the assignment settings, and/or have been placed in an assignment group with 0% weight.
- There are no empty assignment groups. Delete any assignment groups that do not contain assignments.
In the Gradebook
- Grades match the number of points for each assignment. You can see the number of points at the top of the assignment column, for example Out of 10. This means that the assignment has 10 points and that 10 is the maximum grade. A graded assignment should never say Out of 0. If it says, for example, Out of 15, grades should be entered on a 0–15 scale.
- Every grade cell contains a grade, 0, or Excused. Complete/Incomplete also counts as a grade. No cell should contain a hyphen (except for the exception below).
- The exception is assignment cells for assignments that do not count toward the final grade. These are assignments where Do not count this assignment towards the final grade has been selected in the assignment settings, or assignments that are in an assignment group with 0% weight. In these cells, a hyphen is acceptable.
- If an assignment group has a rule that drops students’ lowest scores, enter 0 where a grade is missing. Otherwise, the assignment group total and the final grade may not be calculated correctly.
- If a student has withdrawn from the course but still appears in the gradebook, enter 0. After importing final grades into Ugla, change the grade to Absent. The same applies if a student does not attend the final exam.
- All grades have been posted.
If all of the above has been checked, students’ final grades are likely to be correct and can be imported into Ugla. To avoid any doubt, however, it is recommended that you calculate the final grade manually for a few students and compare the result with the grade shown in Canvas.
