Portfolios

Canvas ePortfolios will be discontinued on June 30, 2026. The new Portfolio tool discussed here will fully replace it for creating portfolios. Both systems are available from the Account menu in Canvas. More information is available in the blog post  Introducing Canvas Portfolio.

About Portfolios
Portfolios in Canvas allow teachers to collect, organize, and review evidence related to learning, skills, or work. The tool offers two main types: evaluation portfolios, which teachers create and use to monitor student progress, and showcase portfolios, which any user can create for their own work and evidence.

An evaluation portfolio can be linked to one or more Canvas courses, and students in those courses are then added to the portfolio automatically. Teachers can add a title, instructions, sections, and requirements, and include evidence such as assignments, activities, professional experience, and skills. Evaluation portfolios also include a dashboard where teachers can monitor student progress, see which portfolios have not been started, which are in progress, pending review, or completed. Teachers can also open an individual student’s status and view it in more detail.

Both students and teachers can create their own showcase portfolios. These are private by default, but they can be shared by link.
