Canvas is the University of Iceland’s secure online learning environment. Teachers use Canvas to share course information, course materials, and communication with students, and to manage assignments and assessment. To open Canvas, you need to sign in through Ugla first.

In Canvas, you can for example:

  • access course materials and assignments.
  • watch recorded lectures and teaching videos.
  • attend live teaching sessions.
  • submit assignments and take quizzes.
  • participate in discussions.
  • work in groups.
  • view feedback and grades.

Submitting Assignments

Assignments in Canvas can have different submission types. Here you can see how to upload a file, type text directly, or submit a link. Some assignments are individual assignments, others are group assignments, and in some cases teachers may also use peer review or tools such as FeedbackFruits.

Grades and Feedback

In Grades, you can see the status of your assignments, your grades, and any feedback your teacher has released. Be sure to read the feedback, not just the grade — it may include useful guidance. In some courses, you can also use What-If Grades to explore how possible grades might affect your final grade.
